Both of these shows were choreographed by Jerome Robbins, a VERY famous and influential choeographer. His works shaped the Musical Theatre of the 50's and 60's and led to the work that Bob Fosse would eventually create. Without his influence, our Musicals today would be very different.
Fiddler on the Roof - Tradition. This is the scene/choreo that 'What is Urinetown' is based on. Topol (they guy who is playing Tevye in this video) also played the role in the movie and multiple national tours. He is known for this role.
West Side Story - Cool. This is the inspiration for sections of 'Snuff that Girl'. A poor quality video of the original Robbins' choreography.

The Ragtime clip deals with an AMAZING acting piece. The character of 'Mother' (Mazzie) has come to the realization that she and her husband are not suited for each other and that she wants more from life than the society in 1906 will allow. The Fred Astaire clip deals with using an inanimate object as a second character in the scene.

This week I really want you to look at people who can ACT their way through a song, not just sing it beautifully. Pay attention to the beats in each song (change in thought/new idea) and how that helps motivate the movement.
